Caldecott Honor is a delightful story of a little girl who asks a very good
question: Does everything in the world go to sleep? As she tries to delay going to bed, her
parents respect her agency in not being sleepy while they subtly make sure she
prepares for bed. The question she asks
is one that would be a great opportunity to engage primary grade children in
meaningful inquiry to find out the answer to this compelling question. I can see why Zagarenski’s illustrations
earned her a Caldecott Honor. The
pictures abound with subtle yet colourful hues, and the background patterns of
each illustration add texture and interest. This
book is a great addition to a child’s home library and is certainly a treat for
reading at bedtime.
